What It's Genuinely Good At
Speed. GPT-4o is fast — noticeably faster than previous versions. Asking for a 1,500-word article outline returns results in under 30 seconds. For iterative content work (write → revise → revise again), this speed matters a lot when you're producing volume.
Versatility. ChatGPT isn't just a writing tool. It writes, codes, analyses data, creates tables, handles spreadsheet formulas, debugs logic, summarises long documents, and brainstorms across domains. If you're building an online business, the non-writing applications save hours per week — automating product description templates, calculating profit margins, drafting email sequences.
Instruction-following. GPT-4o is excellent at following complex, multi-part prompts. "Write a 500-word Etsy product description for a personalised nurse mug in a warm, conversational tone. Include the keywords 'funny nurse gift', 'nurse appreciation', and 'nurse mug'. End with a call to action. Don't use the word 'perfect'." It does exactly this. Reliably.
Limitations
The output, while high quality, has a recognisable voice. Regular readers will notice a certain cadence in GPT-4o writing — the three-part structure, the summarising conclusion, the tendency toward bullet lists. Editing is required to inject authentic personality.
Context limitations are improving but still real. Very long projects (15,000+ words) can lose coherence toward the end of a session. Work in chunks.

What It's Genuinely Good At
Brand Voice is Jasper's standout feature. You train it on your existing content and it maintains consistent tone, style, and vocabulary across everything it writes. For a solo creator or small team producing regular content, this consistency is difficult to achieve without Jasper. It's the difference between content that "sounds like you" and content that sounds like it was written by six different interns.
The template library is extensive and genuinely useful: blog posts, Facebook ads, Amazon product listings, email subject lines, Google ad copy, YouTube descriptions. Not just generic templates — properly structured ones that have been trained on high-converting real examples.
Surfer SEO integration (in higher plans) is powerful. Write with Jasper while getting real-time SEO guidance based on what's ranking. Less tab-switching, more optimised output.
Limitations
The price. $49/month is a meaningful commitment for someone just starting. For a beginner building their first Etsy store or blog, the ROI isn't immediate. Jasper pays for itself when you're consistently producing content that generates affiliate revenue or sales — not before.

What It's Genuinely Good At
Research with citations. This is Perplexity's single defining strength and why it's non-negotiable in a content operation. Ask it "What are the best Etsy niches for print on demand in 2026?" and you get a structured answer with cited sources — Reddit threads, seller forums, Etsy blog posts, research papers. You can verify every claim.
This matters enormously for content credibility. Publishing a stat like "Etsy has 96 million active buyers" is only useful if it's accurate and you can source it. Perplexity surfaces that data with citations so you're not publishing wrong numbers.
Real-time information. GPT-4o has a knowledge cutoff. Perplexity doesn't — it searches the live web. For topics that change quickly (AI tools, platform fees, regulatory changes, market conditions), Perplexity's answers are current. ChatGPT's may not be.
Limitations
It's not a writing tool in the traditional sense. Perplexity gives you research and synthesis; it doesn't give you polished prose. Use it for the research phase, then write with ChatGPT or Jasper.

The Real Question: Cost vs Output
