The best AI tools to make money online in 2026 aren't the flashiest β they're the ones that actually save time, improve output quality, and are worth the subscription fee. We've tested most of these ourselves while building this site and our Etsy store. Here's what's actually useful.
We've organised these by use case: content creation, SEO, design, ecommerce, and business automation. Affiliate links are marked clearly β we only recommend tools we'd pay for ourselves.
AI Writing Tools
1. Jasper AI β Best for Long-Form Content
Price: $49β$125/month | Best for: Bloggers, content marketers, agencies
Jasper is purpose-built for marketing content β blog posts, ad copy, email sequences, product descriptions. It's not just a ChatGPT wrapper; Jasper has trained on high-converting marketing copy and integrates with Surfer SEO for optimised output.
Pros: Best long-form output quality of any dedicated writing tool, excellent templates, direct Surfer SEO integration, good tone control.
Cons: Expensive. At $49/month minimum, it's only worth it if you're producing a lot of content. The free tier is very limited.
Best use case: Writing 1,500+ word blog posts that are optimised for SEO. If you're publishing 2+ articles per week, Jasper pays for itself in time saved.
2. ChatGPT Plus β Best All-Around AI Assistant
Price: $20/month | Best for: Everyone
GPT-4o is genuinely excellent for research, outlining, rewriting, brainstorming product ideas, writing email sequences, and creating social media captions. The $20/month for Plus is worth it versus the free tier for the speed and context window alone.
Pros: Incredibly versatile, huge context window, good at following detailed prompts, code capabilities useful for automations.
Cons: Generic output if you give generic prompts. The quality delta between "write me a blog post about X" and a well-crafted prompt is enormous. Requires you to know how to prompt well.
AI SEO Tools
3. Surfer SEO β Best for Content Optimisation
Price: $89β$219/month | Best for: Bloggers and SEO teams
Surfer analyses the top-ranking pages for any keyword and tells you exactly what your content needs: word count, keyword density, heading structure, and which related terms to include. It takes the guesswork out of on-page SEO.
Pros: Directly shows you what Google is rewarding for any given keyword, content editor is excellent, integrates with Jasper and Google Docs.
Cons: Expensive for solo creators. The cheapest plan is $89/month and only covers 10 articles/month. Best value if you're writing regularly.
4. Semrush β Best for Keyword Research
Price: $139.95/month | Best for: Serious SEO, competitive analysis
Semrush is the industry-standard SEO platform. Keyword research, competitor analysis, backlink audits, site health checks β it does everything. For affiliate marketers and bloggers, the keyword research alone is worth the cost.
Pros: Comprehensive data, best competitive intelligence of any tool, accurate keyword volumes.
Cons: Expensive and complex for beginners. If you're just starting out, try their free tier (10 searches/day) until you're ready to invest.
Cheaper alternative: Ubersuggest at $29/month does 80% of what Semrush does for beginners.
AI Design Tools
5. Canva Pro β Best for Non-Designers
Price: $16.99/month | Best for: POD sellers, bloggers, social media managers
Canva Pro is in our daily workflow. The Magic Design feature, background remover, brand kit, and 100M+ asset library make it genuinely useful for creating blog graphics, social posts, Etsy listing images, and POD designs without any design experience.
Pros: Extremely easy, huge template library, brand consistency tools, good AI features added in 2025/26.
Cons: Output is limited by templates β everything tends to look "Canva-ish" unless you push beyond the defaults. Not suitable for complex illustrations.
6. Midjourney β Best for AI Image Generation
Price: $10β$60/month | Best for: POD sellers, content creators, digital product sellers
Midjourney V7 (2026) generates commercial-grade artwork. For print on demand sellers, it's a competitive edge β unique designs nobody else has, at speed. We cover this in depth in our 50 Designs a Day with AI article.
Pros: Output quality is stunning for the price, fast iteration, commercial use rights included.
Cons: Requires prompt skill to get good results. The Discord interface is clunky (though a web UI now exists). Images can feel similar if you use the same style descriptors.
AI Ecommerce Tools
7. Everbee β Best for Etsy Product Research
Price: Freeβ$29.99/month | Best for: Etsy sellers, POD entrepreneurs
Everbee is a Chrome extension that shows you estimated monthly revenue, views, and sales for any Etsy listing. It's invaluable for finding products with proven demand before you invest time creating designs. See our full Everbee review for everything it can do.
Pros: Free tier is genuinely useful, revenue estimates are reasonably accurate, keyword research tool helps with listing optimisation.
Cons: Revenue figures are estimates, not actuals. Don't bet your business on exact numbers β use them directionally.
AI Business Automation Tools
8. Zapier + AI Actions
Price: Freeβ$69+/month | Best for: Automating repetitive tasks
Zapier connects your apps and automates workflows. With AI Actions added in 2025, you can build automations like: new Etsy order β AI generates a thank-you email β sends via Gmail. Or: new blog post published β AI writes social captions β posts to Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.
The free tier covers basic automations. Paid plans from $19.99/month unlock more complex multi-step zaps.
9. Kit (ConvertKit) β Best for Email Marketing
Price: Free up to 10,000 subs | Best for: Bloggers, creators, affiliates
Email marketing still has the highest ROI of any digital marketing channel β typically $36 for every $1 spent. Kit is the go-to platform for creators. The automations, broadcast system, and landing page builder are all excellent. We use it for this site.
Free up to 10,000 subscribers means you can build a meaningful audience before paying anything. At scale, it's $25β$50/month β worth every cent if you're actively sending.
The Bottom Line: Don't Subscribe to Everything
The trap is paying $300+/month in tool subscriptions before you've made a dollar. Start with the free tiers. Add paid tools only when you're generating enough revenue to justify the investment. Our minimum viable stack to start:
- ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) β for everything
- Canva Free β for design
- Kit Free β for email
- Semrush Free tier β for keyword research
Total: $20/month. Everything else comes after you're generating income. See our ChatGPT side hustles guide for specific income methods using these tools.
